Understated, elegant and most importantly fun – my daughter hoped her first-ever baby shower would be all that and then some. Since hosting duties were all mine I called on my friends at Ki Housethank you Karen, Krista and Kelsie! –  to help me bring Katherine’s vision to life and they didn’t disappoint. Gorgeous florals in weathered zinc containers, mimosas to greet guests as they entered the beautiful, rustic, French Country space and an acoustic guitarist set the perfect vibe for the early afternoon luncheon. The venue – Chicago’s Blue Door Kitchen & Garden – is one of my favorites and seemed especially fitting since Katherine and her husband Evan are expecting a baby boy. The food is always incredible and Events Manager Rachel Brodette was an absolute pleasure to work with!  Urban Icing created a phenomenal banana-fudge layer cake that was not only delicious but gorgeous, as well!

In addition to the traditional prediction cards at each place setting – so fun to read later that night! – family and friends snapped polaroids and placed them in a vintage guestbook along with special wishes for the mom-to-be. As far as games go, everyone had a blast playing Who’s That Baby* – seriously one of the highlights of the afternoon.

Time flew by, as it always does and judging by the smile on my daughter’s face, I’d say this special, milestone gathering was a huge success. Another mission accomplished. ;)

*Baby photos of each guest (collected prior to the shower) were numbered and placed on a giant leaf-covered easel. Guest’s names were printed on notecards and given to attendees as they arrived. During cocktails everyone had a chance to peruse the photos and jot down guesses on their notecard. After lunch each guest went to the easel, introduced themselves and revealed which baby photo was theirs. Needless to say, lots of laughs and surprises with this game! A definite must-do if you’re hosting a baby shower.
