Iconic, old school and just plain cool, The Apple Pan has been serving up burgers, fries and mouthwatering pies since 1947. This is one of those hidden LA gems that you’d likely drive right by if not for its legendary reputation. The kitschy burger joint, whose motto – Quality Forever – is emblazoned on its storefront sign, has been packing them in for nearly 70 years. Stepping through the double screen doors of this place is like stepping into a time machine and being transported to a childhood eatery where everything screams Americana-original, right down to the “cash only” cash register – small bills only.

The verdict?

This place lives up to all of its underground hype. The burger, the fries, the delectable pie – all were sensational. Though he did think the hickory burger had too much lettuce on it, John, a true burger aficionado, still ranked it among his top five best burgers anywhere and he’s a tough critic.
