Better late than never. I first shared the story about the red, white and blue bomber jacket I’m wearing here. It happens that it is an authentic piece of my family history, worn by my then 22-year old father when he played basketball for the U.S. Army.
Always in style, even after all these years, this timeless treasure is a compilation of several of today’s trends.
Bomber-inspired silhouette. Check.
Americana. Check.
Athletic Wear. Check.
Vintage. Check.
I drew inspiration for my bomber jacket reinterpretation from Gucci’s incredibly artful Spring 2016 collection, and more specifically, from the beautiful jacket and blouse below.
I am beyond smitten with the gorgeous vintage-inspired collection envisioned by Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele. (Unfortunately that incredible silk duchess bomber jacket with multicolor floral embroidery above is sold out.)
Thankfully, there are many other renditions to choose from right now.
To get a look that’s both chic and unique check out some of my favorite not-so-basic bombers:

This look is so much fun!
LOVE your look. I just gave my daughter a vintage athletic jacket that I found that is very similar to the looks you are showing. I am a huge fan of Michele and how he has transformed Gucci. Love the red shoes and scarf!! And you look so good in your flared jeans.

What provenance behind that bomber, Mary. I’d already thought the world of this outfit because of its lavish palette and also because I’m a huge aficionado of bomber jackets in general but having understood its rich history, I’m even more taken by it.
I love nonbasic bomber. I’ve been wanting a sequin one.
Oh, I love seeing outfits with cool histories behind them! You styled this so fashionably and thoughtfully…wonderful!
