This former First Lady’s sartorial choices are legendary and have been emulated and admired the world over. During her time in the White House, Jacqueline Kennedy turned elegance and sophistication into a high art form with a signature style that embraced clean lines and bold solid colors.
Her accessories, when called for, were almost always pearls, simple gold bracelets, and of course her iconic pillbox hats. Whether wearing a classic sheath dress, tailored suit, or glamorous gown, the silhouette of her ensemble always flattered her statuesque frame.
The First Ladies that would follow her into the White House almost certainly took a page or two out of her style book, embodying many of her fashion philosophies but most definitely putting their own twist on things…
Nancy Reagan with her bold use of color, especially red, and gold or pearl accessories…
and Current First Lady Michelle O’Bama and her masterful mix of high-low fashion that personifies an easy elegance that is not only relatable but also incredibly chic.
Inspired by all three, I put my own spin on what has now become a classic and timeless wardrobe essential—the sheath dress.
Michael Kors Dress/ Stuart Weitzman Pumps/ J.Crew gold & pearl necklaces/ Kate Spade pearl necklace with gold bow clasp
I have always loved the clean, simple lines of a sheath dress, and this one in particular for its flattering, fitted silhouette and rich raspberry color. I amped up the look by adding layers of necklaces—pearls, gold, and rhinestone—along with some simple gold bracelets. I styled my hair in a kind of messy low-ponytail and added a pair of black lace pumps and voilá, First Lady style sans the Secret Service Detail ;)
