Good morning!

If you’ve any doubts that I love coats just go back and check out out this post, this post, this post and well, I guess too many posts to count. For those of us living in areas where they are a necessity, a good coat is a wardrobe essential. A statement coat, on the other hand, with its embellishments, embroidery or fantastical flourishes of color works as the closer to any outfit, the finishing touch that when done right can elevate even the simplest look. How do you do it right? As with so many wardrobe hero pieces, fit is critical. Make sure your statement coat is perfectly tailored and that the silhouette has classic lines. Also ask yourself how the coat will work with what you’re wearing underneath it. I chose to go monochrome, wearing an off-white Theory top and Elizabeth and James cropped pants. The clean, foundational palette turns my Trina Turk statement coat into a standout.

If you’re looking for ways to update your basics a statement coat is a great addition to your wardrobe and there are many to choose from right now. On the pricey side this gorgeous Comme des Garcons floral coat is definitely a standout. Far less expensive but equally gorgeous is this MSGM floral-print coat that is so pretty!
