I had the pleasure of staying at the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel recently during my 13-hundred mile road trip home from South Florida to Chicago. What a gorgeous property! Hard to believe this architectural jewel sat boarded up and condemned in the mid 80s – slated for demolition. Thankfully, the famed property was saved from the wrecking ball and though it’s had many incarnations, one as an upscale apartment building, the hotel with its Parisian flair, eventually reemerged as a luxury hotel in the late 90s and has been going strong ever since.

Located directly across the street from another historic property – The Fox Theatre, the hotel has welcomed countless dignitaries and celebrities, including Clark Gable, President Calvin Coolidge, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. In 1918 a college student by the name of Arthur Murray taught dance lessons in the hotel’s ballroom and in 1939 The Georgian Terrace hosted the premiere gala for Gone With the Wind.

The architecture of the hotel is truly magnificent, marrying the original 10-story structure with a 19-story wing that was added in 1991.

Do check this Historic Hotel of America out if you happen to be traveling to Atlanta. It’s a lovely hotel and the southern hospitality made us feel right at home.
